What We Believe
This page is a short synopsis of what we believe. It is NOT an attempt to be a creed or a statement of faith.
Our Mission
The mission of the Vale church is as follows: to teach as many people about Jesus so they can be saved and become a disciple and servant of the Lord, to encourage and build up each other as spiritual family, and to equip ourselves in the service of our Lord.
It is our goal to imitate the Bible's pattern for the church by basing all we do on Biblical principles and instructions. We study the whole Bible in our classes and constantly use it in our preaching. However, we recognize and follow the New Testament as the sole means of understanding what our Lord wants us to do today.
"God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son…" (Hebrews 1:1-2 ).
By trusting the Bible as our only guide, we are bound together as a spiritual family in love, unity, and consensus. We work and worship together as a completely non-denominational group of God's people. Our goal is to be part of the church that Jesus promised to build, "And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it" (Matthew 16:18).
What is the Vale Church of Christ?
Jesus told His disciples “…I will build my church” (Matthew 16:18). The Lord accomplished this mission (John 17:4) and made it possible for all to be saved by shedding His own blood (Acts 20:28).
The Vale Church of Christ is made up of people that have been saved by the blood of the Jesus. We belong to Christ – that is, we are Christians (1 Corinthians 6:19-20; Acts 11:26). Jesus Christ is our Savior and Head (Ephesians 5:25) and we live to glorify Him.
Any group that claims to be following Jesus should really make it their aim to follow Jesus by following His ways and patterns in the New Testament. We are making our best effort to follow the instructions given to us the New Testament. The Bible is our only guide and all we need to be pleasing to God (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:3). We simply follow the pattern described in the New Testament. Therefore, we are part of the church that Jesus built.
Who can be a member of Christ's church?
Jesus said, “I…will draw all peoples to myself” (John 12:32). Jesus also told His apostles to “make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19) and to “preach the gospel to all creation” (Mark 16:15). Therefore, whoever you are – wherever you are from – YOU can be a member of the church that Jesus built.
How can I become a member of Christ's church?
God wants “all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth” (1 Timothy 2:4). He has chosen to “draw all peoples” to Himself through the teaching of the gospel of Christ (Matthew 28:19-20; Mark 16:15-16). The gospel of Christ is the power of God to save all men from their sins (Romans 1:16).
The New Testament teaches that one must believe in Jesus Christ as the Son of God (John 3:16; 20:30-31). In order to have a faith in Jesus we need to hear the plan and action that was taught by the Lord and His followers in the New Testament (Roman 10:14-17). After hearing the gospel and coming to a real belief that Jesus is Lord (John 8:24), we must repent of (turn away from) our sins (Luke 13:3; Acts 2:38; 7:30-31). Then we must confess with our mouth that Jesus is the Son of God (Romans 10:9-10) and then be baptized for the forgiveness of sin (Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38; 22:16). When a person follows God's plan in faith and full assurance then God forgives all our sins and God adds us to the saved- His church (Acts 2:47; cf. 1 Corinthians 12:13).
What we can see is that "being forgiven by God" and "being a member of His church" are to be the same. While many try to separate these ideas, we want make sure that we are serving and following Jesus rather than our own felt needs.
